Fragments Transcending (Hard Copy, 2015)
Fragments Transcending was written by Brad Richter, commissioned by David Finkel (Director of Chamber Music, Lincoln Center) and premiered by Brad and David in 2001. It was inspired by Navajo and Tibetan culture and the astounding similarities between their languages and mythology, their art and spirituality, and ultimately, unfortunately, their fate. They are connected by what author Peter Gold refers to as ‘the universal principles of the circle of the spirit:” the awakening to one’s connection to the fabric of existence and the balancing and unifying of earth with spirit. While Brad’s experience with Tibetan culture is largely though books, he has learned about many aspects of Navajo culture first-hand. For the past 10 years. he has spent several weeks each year as an artist in residence on Arizona’s Navajo reservation.
