Once We Moved Like the Wind, Concerto (2 Solo Guitars & Guitar Orchestra, 2014)
As performed by the Arizona Guitar Orchestra ›
Once We Moved Like the Wind is an homage to legendary Apache medicine man and warrior Geronimo. It was inspired in part by Brad’s experience building guitar programs in schools on the San Carlos Apache reservation in Arizona and playing concerts there with his friend and teacher Carlos Bonell who also premiered this piece with Brad in 2014. The title of the work is a quote from Geronimo and the title for the first movement was inspired by his last words: “I should have never surrendered. I should have fought until I was the last man alive”. The three movements use extended techniques. prepared guitars, stomping and tuning alterations to create an exciting and expressive range of sounds and colors. The 16-minute long work comes with well-conceived parts and a conductor’s score.
